Post Extraction Management Certification

Post Extraction Management CertificationWith the globalization of shea butter products, the shea value chains have become increasingly globalized, and the share of overall returns have been shifting more and more towards the latter part of the chain (downstream)—to include those business activities which underscore product differentiation, such as perceived value, brand design, and marketing. With returns increasingly concentrated in the latter stages of the shea commodity chain, it has become imperative for shea manufacturers and shea producing countries to take on more of the value-added activities that yield higher rewards. Because most of the returns in this sector are skewed, shea producers need to improve international market access and entry.  To do so requires focus and training on shea butter post extraction quality control, which improves market access by ensuring end users of consistent high grade products.

ASBI offers harvester producer groups extensive training and technical assistance in harvesting, pre extraction, extraction, and post extraction management.   The Post Extraction  credential recognizes a demonstrated understanding of the fundamental knowledge, processes and terminology as defined in the ASBI Shea Butter Handbook that are needed for the production of high quality shea butter products.
