Natural Product Formulation Workshops

Today, more and more products contain harmful chemicals and ingredients, but due to “loose” FDA guidelines many consumer hair and body products contain slogans that proclaim “natural” , “shea”, “coco” , or “olive” in bold letters, yet contain only trace amounts (which allow the bold letters to be true).  We would like to educate consumers about how to properly read product labels, and understand how to evaluate purchases based on having “label literacy.”

The Natural Product Formulation Course 101 is designed to provide scientific approaches to the development of skin and hair product formulations that work. This course is well suited for individuals interested in developing product formulas; including those who currently have a proposed formula and desire assistance to inform formulation criteria to those interested in education in formulation science and designing specific products for hair and skincare lines. The course provides fundamentals in product formulations based on science and applied chemistry. This course will provide time for attendees to experiment on their own formulation ideas, under the guidance and structure of applied chemistry from formulation experts.  Segments include formulation training, product development, with FDA guidelines provided alongside information about ingredient testing and grading.

 After course completion attendees will be able to determine the chemical function of their product formula and how to then properly support product claims, understand the relationship of formulation ingredients, and avoid harmful chemicals and processes during product development.

This workshop is designed to be fun, while still informative, in a relaxed atmosphere, with the main activity of providing the materials and introducing consumers to the art and science of creating their own natural products to take home and use.  The Natural product formulas developed are based on natural oils and fragrances to add personal and individually distinctive flares, while helping inspire an individual’s master piece.  Workshop Supplies are included; but not limited to jars, base oils, fragrance, and mixing utensils, alongside take home materials for further use.  Additionally take home formulation kits, supplies, and materials will be available for purchase.
